Our Congregation’s History
The Roosevelt City Church of Christ was organized in 1933 by the late Brother Paul D. English, Sr. The idea for a gospel meeting in a location near Bessemer, Al, was discussed by Brother Paul D. English, Brother Robert Jones, and Brother Bill Foster. The meetings were initially held in a hall in the Cairo area and later, in a store across from the hall. About 300 people were baptized over a nine-week period.
After the congregation was organized, Brother William Mayham, Brother Willis Black, and Brother Charlie Miles were selected to serve. Brother English was followed by several other ministers and because of them, we have continued to grow in the Lord. The congregation moved into a newer building on December 8,1963 which was located across from our current location.
On November 17,2007, we were blessed to see the culmination of many years of vision and planning as we dedicated our new building.
